The ability to use an SMD / SMT J201 in place of the now obsolete TO-92 package. These SMT versions are the genuine deal - they'll perform exactly the same as the original through hole design.

You will just need to add the legs; a couple snipped off resistor leads will do just the trick.

I'm building a Jack Orman style mini boost with mine which will get itself a permanent position on my board!
